Ok, i have a 14' Jon boat. it had an old foot pedel trolling motor on it. i replaced it with a transom mount new minn kota.

i want to mount it on the side of the Boat rather than the Bow or Transom. simply because it would be easier to run closer.

anyone have an idea or seen someone thats done this?
i have a few ideas on how but want to get sme thoughts from you all.

Tom

Depending on the boat, you may be able to simply clamp it on the side. Transom mount motors can be swiveled 360 degrees so as long as the prop doesn't hit the boat, you would be good to go. However, having the tiller pointing straight forward off one side of the boat would seem to make it difficult to turn away from you. You must have long arms.

So now I'm confused! I thought you wanted it on the side. The tiller handle must point forward to move the boat forward. What am I missing?

b.gagnon said that i didnt. all you have to do is remove the bolt from beneath the handle part of the motor and spin it around, then you handle will the opisite of the prop.

i am going to put it on the side. and i dont think with the widht of my boat i will have a problem

How effecient is a motor mounted on the side compared to off the transom....transom is swim platform in my boats case so this sounds interesting
