Trolling motors

I have purchased a 28-ft. pontoon. I have completely refurbished it. I am wanting to add on a trolling motor. Can anyone give me suggestions as to what length I would need and what amount of thrust I should look at? I do a lot of catfishing and bassfishing. Since I've been retired, I've gotten out of bassfishing and onto a pontoon for a little more comfort. Thanks for your info.<br /><br />bmasters8

A 28 ft. pontoon is a lot of boat to push with an electric trolling motor. Especially if you're dealing with wind, waves and tight maneuvering. Bass pro shops trolling motor guide suggests 100 lbs of thrust for a 22' boat. So in your case the bigger the better. I've seen local guys even run 2 trollers on some of their pontoons (front & rear) for added control.<br /><br />One thing you might want to look into is a Navigator system that mounts to your outboard. (check out bass pro shops) They offer a 165lb. thrust model that is recommended up to a 24' boat or 8000 lbs. ($1,700 - Yikes!) Obviously, you have to go with what you can afford, but you're probably looking at a 24-volt or 36-volt system to get the job done.
