Trolling techique.

I read somewhere that it is possible to engage a "kicker" of 8-15hp in the water. Lock it to go straight., and use the main motor leg to steer the boat.<br />Saves you having to use the tiller and see where you are going.<br />Has anyone tried this !!!<br />Does it give you a bit of control without the main prop turning ???

It is common for some people around here to use this method with a trolling motor so i would think it would work with a kicker motor however with the increased power I imagine the responsiveness would be less than optimum.

it works. simply a bar that attaches the kicker to your main engine. you steer with your wheel. check cabellas or pro bass shops, i think they both sell it.

What Matt says works very well and if you have an inboard set-up the kicker can sit straight and steer with the boats rudder.
