TROUBLE at the lake today....

Well after taking care of my spark problem a while back I took my 89 Force 85 HP out to the lake today. I also changed the water pump. Fires right up on the trailer and the dock although idles a bit rough. I also took the carbs apart to clean out and have cabs set at 1 and a quarter turn out. Anyway when I when I tried to reverse out of the dock the prop was barely turning in reverse even with the throttle turned all the way. When I put it all the ways forwards the prop barely turned as well. Did I screw up the shift linkage "setting" or does it sound like a carb problem? Fuel recirculation? When I put the boat back on the trailer ALOT of unburned fuel leaked down from the weep holes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe it is your shift linkage. If it is slightly off it will not work correctly. I hope this helps,

More info???Add anything that might help???
Does it move when you put in gear?
Does it rev up?Both F/R??(prop hub)
Unburned fuel?Possible the carbs leaking after you tilt. Not a big problem.

It barely moves when put in gear. It seems when I get out of neutral and into gear there is an rpm drop and its on the verge of stalling(a couple of times it did stall). Alot of sputtering when I throw it into gear. It does not rev at all other then when Im in neutral and I use the carb linkage to give it gas. Thanks.

Does moving the throttle handle make the carb linkage move? Sounds to me like a controls problem.

Re: TROUBLE at the lake today....

Sounds like the shift cable and the throttle cable might be backwards or not hooked up???
Or the shifter is stuck in neutral.
Unhook the connectors at the motor and see if they are moving when you shift.
The one to move first is the gear followed by the speed.
Do this and post the results.
Some close up pics of the cables and connectors if possible.J
