trouble removing trim tilt motor?

I have a 1989 yamaha 175hp motor and need to replace my trim tilt motor. I have removed the three bolts on the left side of the motor bracket and have loosened the nut from the steering tube. I am having trouble spreading the left side motor bracket apart. The bottom wiggles alittle but the upper end at the steering tube is not moving. I have pounded on it from the opposite side with a wood block and hammer to no avail. Unfortunately my Seloc manual dosen't detail this removal procedure. Have I overlooked something or do I need more oil and a bigger hammer? I figured I sould verify the procedure for this before going crazy with a sledge hammer.

Did you unbolt the zinc anode at the bootom of the bracket?

Yes, the zinc anode is removed.
Is it necessary to remove the zerk grease nipples from the bracket? Do these impede the steering tube from sliding through the bracket?
Also, will heating up the bracket with a propane torch help?

I finally managed to get the bracket apart by placing a hydraulic jack between each side and spreading them apart. Initially it was tough but once it broke loose this worked pretty well. For what it's worth, I didn't remove any greese fittings and it finally came apart OK.
