Now that I have my 1993 70HP up and running I want to get my tach going. Last year it would come and go, but now it's dead. It's a Faria and it lights up but it doesn't seems to be getting a signal. Can I test to see if a signal is there using a multi meter or somthing like that?

When we first purchased the motor 8 years ago it had the same problem and it turned out it was the rectifier, but the dealer figured it out, not me.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Matt

Re: Trouble Shooting Tach

Most common cause of a nonfunctioning tach is a bad rectifier. Most common cause of blown rectifiers is loose, corroded, or crossed battery connections. If you have a voltmeter, see if the battery is getting a charge. The battery voltage should increase a bit when the motor is running over the voltage without the motor running.

Re: Trouble Shooting Tach

Just checked and the voltage increase with the engine running (14 volts).

Is there anyway to test the Tach?

Thanks,

K
