Galaxy,

You didn't have to adjust any mixture screws did you? I think I can handle taking it apart, cleaning it and putting it back together, but if I have to adjust anything I just soon leave it to the pros.

hey medic

Here's a tip. When I rebuilt the same carb you are about to tear apart, I thought about this and then in the heat of battle forgot and wish I had done it. If you have a digital camera, take pictures of the carb at each stage BEFORE you undo that rod or unscrew that screw or undo that linkage. Why? because the rebuild kit will give you pictures and parts of several versions that rebuild kit will fix and you'll have several things in the kit that don't pertain to your carb version. Just take a picture and refer to it each stage of the way when putting it back together. Cost? nada.

Good Luck

swabbie

Ok...went to the boat. Got the carb. and brought it home. Took some pics too. Took the top of the carb off and exposed the float and bowl. Evidence of varnish and grime in the bowl. Looks like I should be able to clean it out and put it back together. Do I use ordinary carb and fuel injector cleaner made by gumout that comes in a spray can? I have a can of it already but it says not to spray down in the carb. Will this stuff damage the float or anything else?

I suppose any carb cleaner will work. The crap you see in the float bowl is an indicator of crap in side the carb and think you should consider a total rebuild. Be sure you blow that carb cleaner out with compressed air and not water.

swabbie

Swabbie,

I have decided to do a rebuild and ordered the kit today. Should be here tomorrow. A friend I work with said that after cleaning it with carb cleaner to spray it out with brake cleaner because the brake cleaner will dry up and evaporate. Is that a good idea?

medic

Re: Trouble when giving it the gas!

Got the carb kit today, but I have a couple of questions. My model number is not listed in the application chart. "17059506" I called and doubled checked, actually tripple checked the part number and apparently I have the correct kit. (Also, the needle jet that came with the kit is different than the existing one.) Therefore I don't have the settings for the carb. I called the local boat service center and the mechanic there told me that the only setting that would need to be checked was the float. Everything else should stay the same. He said to turn it upside down and make sure the float was level and that should be about it. Will that work? Does anyone have the measurement for the float?

Thanks
