I have a 1993 evinrude 15hp motor. It get hot after a few minutes then shuts down. It will start after it cools off but after 2 or 3 minutes it will shut back off hard to start. I've changed the coil pack , replaced gas tank, rebuilt the carb, rebuilt fuel pump. put new spark plugs in. Im thinking maybe the power pack is shorting out. Can any one help me solve this problem .

I'd be looking at the water pump impeller. Drop lower unit and replace the water pump. If you don't know when the last time it was changed, now's the time. If you're reasonably sure it's not overheating, place crushed ice in a ziplock bag. Place ice bag on power pack, let it sit a bit to cool the power pack. Start motor, does it run longer before it shuts down? If it does, there appears to be a thermal issue with the power pack. If it shuts down in 2-3 minutes, look at the water pump.

Re: trouble with evinrude motor 1993 15hp

thanks for the reply . the boat motor is about 14 years old . I dont really think any thing in the lower unit has been changed. I cant find a propeller that will fit my type of motor. 9 1/2 by 12 1/2 . They say that its unusual size . But the water still comes out of the port holes when i hook up the water hose with the muffs. Motors runs for a few minutes i shut it off will not start again until it cools off. Could it be a power pack in the electrical department

Sounds right...when you have it on the muffs, water is being forced through the pump in enough volume to cool the motor. When you're on the lake, the pump isn't good enough to properly cool the motor.

you wouldnt believe the little things that stops a boat from running. I think i finally solved my problem with my boat cutting out on me. Bought a bulb with the hose an the female connector already put togther . The female connector fit a yamaha motor not a evinrude motor. The female connector was to big so it was'nt sucking up the fuel from the tank like it was suppose to. (it was sucking air). So i bought the johnson/evinrude female fuel connector an it started up ran didnt die or nothing had readjust the carb we're i messed with it.
