i have a 71 i think 2hp evinrude. i had it runing in a barrel in march 09 we put new coil plug@wire.points looked fine@condenser all good right wrong now it wont start looks like water on the plug we also changed head gasket could it be flooded big time lots of spark. maybe timing if so how do i time it@ what is the jet settings frustrated would like it for may weekend like i said it was running good after we installed new parts

Water on the plugs can come from four places:
? Bad head gasket. You apparently took care of that one.
? Water in the gas. Can get sucked through the carburetor.
? Water from the exhaust housing. Can happen if the lower end it lifted above the powerhead.
? Submersion. You'd probably recall that, unless you lent the motor to someone else.

My bet is on water in the gas - not uncommon with today's high alcohol content fuels. The alcohol absorbs moisture...

thanks for the imput. i was just playing with it again. i have lots of spark. and its out of the tank im pulling it over. it does not to apear to have water on plug it just wont even fire or spit

hy guys just to let u no. im having a hell of a time trying to post on this site. i go to new postes try to click on thread but my mouse arrow is gone anyway, I SOLVED THE PROBLEM my 2hp evenrude i was telling u about i removed the head again and found the head gasket blown i bought a new one again. this time i sanded down the head on class and sand paper i found it was not true engen runs sweet now. ps in regards to the timing i found out if the points are worn it can throw it out of time if u find u put it in start position and dont start but will if u move throtle else where it will. replace points thanks for all your help:cool:
