Troubleshooting vacuum cleaner

The agitator brush underneath the vacuum cleaner spins freely on bare floor. As soon as it meets the resistance of carpet it comes to a dead stop. I checked the belt and it seems tight. One thing though, the belt wraps around the electric motors smooth shaft and doesn?t make that telltale burning smell when the brush stops. I wonder what that means. The vacuum is practically brand new
Any ideas?
Help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: Troubleshooting vacuum cleaner

I have a bissel at home and the belt seems tight except it is actually worn or stretched a bit. I usually change belts and all is okay,

BTW I am in Winter Haven until morning then north to Jacksonville. :D

Re: Troubleshooting vacuum cleaner

If it's a practically brand new Vacuum cleaner, it may still be under warranty.
