1997 Baja Boss Hammer with a 7.4. Just bought it and im trying to find out if I have the mag engine.
As stated, SN: would tell the tale. Is it Fuel injected or carb'd? If it's a "7.4L", it's not the mag. The Mags say 454, not 7.4 in '97. The newer ones have a whole gaggle of terms used.
The 7.4L's and 454 are pretty much the same externally, but quite different inside and, being a '97, lots could have happened / been changed between then and now. If any doubt, there should be an ID tag on the engine down by the starter, or on the bell housing mating flange on the block, behind the distributor, with the SN on it. Don't rely on the plastic flame arrestor cover, if it has one, for the Serial Number. Anything can live beneath that thing.
