Last season I was helpin my dad fix his boat it wouldn't run right. We put a new diaphram, cleaned the carbs. ajusted the carbs for a smooth running engine. Put new gas in it as well. He took it out on a lake and it ran fine. The next time we took it out it wanted to go but it sounded as if it was misfiring. It would take off then no power at all spitting and sputtering along. This was on full throttle. Then he backed off a little to wich the problem was somewhat better so I am thinking that it may be a plug that is fouling out any ideas on what this could actually be? To note he puts a fuel additive in his engine to stablize the fuel. I think that might be it as well the spark might be running to hot. We are looking to have it fix for a fathers day gift.

G'day mate, you'll get a lot more useful info than this if you post what make and HP your motor is, even it's serial number
all outboards need compression, fuel and spark..at the right time of course,
that's a small start

I've had similar problems in the past and it was simply forgetting to open up the fuel tank vent. I hope your issue is as simple as mine.

The type of engine is 1987 50hp Force. Like I said yesterday it sounds as if it's mifiring or one of the plugs are fouling out. I am eager for a response. The vent is opened on the gas can. The right fuel to gas ratio is correct. The carb was cleaned. A new diaphram and new gas was put into the boat at that time but it doesn't still run right. I am sure its something really simple that I am overlooking. Your thought and suggestions will be great.

Re: trying to solve a engine problem

you should do a compression test then check that both plugs have spark with either a spark tester or grounding the plug against the block
