"twin" outboards, ... ALMOST ... mismatched hp rating by 10-15% ???

I am proposing a twin set up with same basic motors, but they are set as different hp and i'm wondering out there has any experience, knowledge or advice on this.

example:

say I had a Yamaha F225 and I found a great deal on a F200, and I wanted to set them up "twin". They are basically the same motor (weight and size etc) they are just computerized differently.

same would be for example Honda 115/130s

or Honda 135/150. (however on this one the 150 might be V-tec, the 135 not ?)

the motors are basically same and I wonder how much the power rating really IS different vs. "labelling" for marketing purposes. ... I've had twin 130s and twin 115s (same motor, different computer program) and I've not noticed any obvious great significant difference.

comments/advice please.

I would think you should be fine..I had a boat that had a 1979 150 and a 1984 185 and they ran great, I could not tell that they were different HP at all

thanks .... I think alot of this power range is alot of marketing hype anyway. ... motors are very same in many instances and they rate hp at the upper rpms that most people don't use a lot. is a 225 really 10% more power through most rpm ranges when they are exactly same motor except computer programming?

I would probably only do this with same engine size. happy boating!

the 150 and the 185 that I had were the same engine blocks and same weights, the previous owner had put his old 150 cowl on the 185. They were Johnson motors, they used the same block for 150-185 HP motors that year. I did not even know it was a 185 until I checked the model number to order some parts. there are some differences between HP motors using the same block, carbs are bigger, exhaust ports are bigger, and sometimes stroke and/or bore. But you will probably not even notice the difference between your 200 and your old 225 when running in a twin motor situation. maybe lose 1-2 MPH max

thanks ... these are both fuel injected 4-strokes, wonder if that makes much difference (?)
