Hi All,

Well as a new boater I really only rely on the advice of this group, so I want to share my break thru in two boating feats, one was I finally released my fear of leaving my boat unattended at a public dock. We travelled the Nanticoke River, from Seaford, DE to Vienna, MD about 28 miles. We docked and made the 6 block walk to a place called Millie's Roadhouse (AWESOME Prime Rib, story later). After dinner the owner gave us a ride back to the dock in their golfcart. We got to the dock and guess what, the boat was still there safe and sound.

My second boating first was I travelled back to port in the dark. I remember the words of wisdom heard on this forum, go slow and watch out for everything. Well long story short, I almost hit a dock. There were red lights on the dock and I thought it was a buoy, needless to say I moved when I realized it was a dock and continued to port safe and sound. Loading the boat in pitch dark was an adventure (Another Story). Well thanks for listening, as always your comment and jeers are welcome.

STILL GRINING FROM MY ACHEIVEMENT

The prime rib was so tender I cut it with the side of my fork and it was 16oz of pure prime rib.

I was nervous my first time in the dark too, its also our favorite time.

Missed a great picture the other night. Waiting for my wife to get the truck, i was sitting out in the water, waiting for the other boats also, almost a full moon.

Turned the boat around and a center console was sitting in the moon reflection on the water. Would have been a great picture.

I'll never forget my first time in the 1000 islands, one of the most dangerous places to boat because you can literally hit a rock in 100' of water. I decided to go in between two islands because I could see some mooring buoys and figured it must be safe if people moor there boats there. WRONG!!! Those buoys were there to mark the rocks between the islands in 20' of water. Moral of the story is if you don't know the water or can't see, Go slow and be careful like you did at night.

I will say, I do know this river very well, I've been on it at least 30 times, in daylight tho. My lesson was avoid hitting solid and unforgiven docks and two, have a spotlight on board for coming into a pitch black port.
