Two questions on seats...

I have a 2008 Sun Tracker pontoon. I have two questions -

Last year, I used Simple Green on the seats and it worked great. This year, I haven't been nearly as thrilled and the seats that "open" for storage stick terribly (vinyl to vinyl). I'm almost afraid I'm going to rip it it sticks so bad sometimes.

Second issue - I have one small hole and another very small rip that I want to address before they turn into something more serious. Wondering if anyone can suggest a product that is going to cover those areas and stay on but not look "bad".

Thanks
Dwight

I wash my seats with good old Dawn soap and warm water. Try that to get rid of the sticky. As far as the rip and hole, I bought some vinyl glue at Jo-Anns fabric store. I cut a small piece from some excess on the bottom of the seat and tucked it in under the tear. I then used a toothpick and the glue, then tape it together with some masking tape overnight. Its worked great for the past two years. I will see if I can find the tube and get you the brand name of the glue if you want.

I had been told to use Simple Green because it's "natural", though I know it's got no UV protection built in to it. It worked GREAT last year, but this year the seats are behaving very differently. Weird...

Personally I would go with a cleaner specifically engineered for vinyl*. Just like ArmorAll is a no no, unless the cleaner is specific for vinyl exposed to the elements, I'd avoid it. I'd say anything being sold in a marine store is better than automotive/household products.

* Most have conditioners and UV protection.

The consensus seems to lean towards 303 cleaner and protectant. A bit more expensive but designed for vinyl and has a good track record.

Thanks for that... I knew I would recognize the name, but I could not recall it.

I'm seeing a lot of 303 stuff for airplanes - is this the same stuff you guys are suggesting for boats?

Yes, it's just called 303 protectant. It will eliminate a lot of your sticky problems also, theres nothing better.

Once you use it you will be able to clean your vinyl seats with a water sprayer and clean towel rag. It will last for several months.
