Question one. I was told I should put in a new
impeller due to overheating on my 1989 90hp
evinrude.I don,t know how to drop the lower section to get at the old impeller. Can someone
tell me how to do this job?
Question two.The guy at the parts store said I might consider shuting down my oil injection,
and going to putting oil directly in the gas.I have not had any problems with my oil injection
so far.Should I shut it down?If so where is it on the engine and how do I shut it down correctly?
Thanks for any info

I don't know about question one. But question two, to shut it down correctly take it to a out board machanic because there is so much to unhook from your motor. You have to unhook hoses and electrical wires.

Re: Two Questions Please

Going to perform maintenance on an outboard? Best to order up a repair manual, and follow it closely. Too many details to cover in a forum like this.

You will be glad you bought it.

If you are inclined to disconnect your vro oil pump, it can be done easily. The manual will help you to identify the parts.
Here is a post by one of the very knowledgable mechanics, it is part of the FAQ forum.

Originally posted by OB:

This topic has been debated at length on these forums as well as others sites. All to date vro equipped John/Rudes will run just fine on 50:1 premix if the vro is bypassed by disconnecting and plugging/capping the oil feed to the vro pump and disabling the vro alarms.

However ,if the original vro pump is not in good operating condition ,it will need to be rebuilt or replaced with a conventional style fuel pump to perform as a 50:1 pumper.

This post is not advocating that you should or should not bypass the vro and mix 50:1 ,but rather to inform any members inquiring on the subject that it can and has been done by many and and works just fine.Anyone seeking the specifics on the procedure can perform a search on the Johnson/Evinrude engine forums.
