Two small tubes (hoses) at dash?

Hi, glad I found these forums because I am going to need them.:)

I recently purchased a 1982 Ranger 375-V fish and fun boat with a 1993 Mercury 150 hp motor. The boat obviously needed some help so I thought it would be a great winter project.

Now a couple of questions: First, there are two small tubes (hoses) under the dash that go back to the motor area. One is for the speedometer and the other one is not connected at the dash and I can't find out where it goes to the motor or the motor area. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Secondly, how do you get to the wires and cables on the right side of the boat that are inside the fiberglass. I am removing some old fish finders, etc. and some of the wires do not want to pull through. Is there some secret to getting access to the wires and cables?

Thanks a bunch,

Don (who will have lots more questions)

Re: Two small tubes (hoses) at dash?

I have had to pull some wires in my bass boat and they are never easy to go in or out. My suggestion for removal is to cut any connector off the end of the wire and pull from the rear or the boat, there is more curves there and there is normally more room to work. Either way it is going to be hard. They run the wire then fill the hull with foam. As far as the second hose... water pressure? Honestly I can't think of anything else that uses that type of line except the speedo.

Connection for water pressure is on top of the block, just aft the flywheel.

Hey thanks a bunch guys. Going to change clothes and go out to the shop now and see if the water pressure gauge needs a hose. Just came from a gun auction in this small Iowa town of 600 and one gun went for $23,000! Now the boat seem cheap. :)

Well, I looked at the pressure gauge and it indeed does have a very small hose coming to it. The hose that is loose under the dash is bigger (maybe 1/4" to 3/4", the same size as the speedometer hose) and I cannot find where it comes out on the back of the boat. Just guessing I think maybe that it was an original speedometer hose that somehow failed so the ran a new one and left part of the old one there. Think that I will just history the remaining portion.
