In 2008, there were 475 floodings/swampings resulting in 89 deaths and 179 injuries.
That was the #2 ranked reported accident involving death.

I don't see any category for transom failure. There were 24 of 709 deaths due to machinery failure (fuel, ventilation, engine, etc.).

Most deaths were 0 - 10 mph, 321 of 709.

292 of 709 deaths were in boats of 16' or less.

The USCG doesn't list accidents/deaths by boat brand, or beer brand, or IQ.
