Like he said, shes been driving go karts for years, its reasonable to expect competence. I was a yard jockey since I was five, Dad had a Cub Cadet for moving the boat around, and always let me back it up. Still, I managed to back the Country Squire into the back of the garage, buried the hitch into the cinder block wall.
Dad just said, the car is fine, the hitch damm well better be strong enough to take a hit. No qualms about me moving the cars around, but he sure got ball busting mileage out of his busted wall!
Sure made him proud to have his ten year old kid back the boat right down to the water. I still have the Cadet, my kids back the family boats up all the time, no mishaps yet.
Cant beat life in the sticks!

OWI
DWI
OUI
IUMV
Whatever they call it in your jurisdiction.

Here's the latest almost local incident:
Everest Metro police officer Doug Sann, 37, of Mosinee was arrested Jan. 17 and charged with driving while intoxicated, careless operation, fleeing an officer, refusal to take breathalizer, and disorderly conduct after leaving a St. Germain tavern.
He who drove 55 mph to 60 mph for nearly two miles before he was cornered on a dead end road.

After he was stopped, Sann told the officer numerous times that there was no problem because he was a cop, the complaint says.

Marathon County Sheriff's Deputy Pat Olson also was involved in the incident. Olson pressured the officer to let Sann go without a citation because they were police.

Sann had previously been suspended in 2000 for one month without pay after an investigation revealed that Sann had helped another officer cover up a drunken-driving crash.

Re: UH OH- What not to let the kids do-True story

Seems to me someone has a "issue" with cops as is evident by the references to police misconduct.

Every profession or career path has issues with contact with the authorities. Some more, some less. Lawyers, doctors, laborers, blue collar, white collar, no collar, etc.
Are cops supposed to be pillars of the community? I suppose so, but they also have the same life issues as everyone else and more so. When was the last time you took the dead baby from the mothers arms that died from SIDS? When was the last time you responded to the horrific car crash and picked up body parts, including a head detached from a body, the head belonging to a 13 year old?
When was the last time you went to the neighbors house due to the smell and you havent seen your neighbor in a week or so, oh.... its also 100 degrees outside and high humidity... they dont have air conditioning. The black looking bloated blob in the bedroom was once your neighbor. When the medical examiners office moves the body it explodes. Real nice....
When was the last time you shot someone, fought someone, chased someone, enforcing the laws of your city, state, country?

The job has its own unique rewards and stressors. Are their bad apples in law enforcement, you bet.
Do we termintate and prosecute them when discovered, you bet...

Dont judge me by someone elses tarnished badge, judge me by my actions and the dedication to "the job" serving my community and country.

I have no "issue" with law enforcement, but with abuse of authority and/or misconduct, and the apparent apathetic acceptance of it by society.

I think it is a contributing factor in the deterioration of respect for anyone in a position of authority, and the fiber of a civilized society as a whole. With all the bad examples we see, from town boards, to work supervisors, to parents, to school principles and teachers, and politicians, its no wonder so many kids have no conscience or respect for authority.

Dont judge me by someone elses tarnished badge, judge me by my actions and the dedication to "the job" serving my community and country.
I couldn't agree more.
Unfortunately, I live in a world where I can no longer trust anyone, except my mother, and possibly my father.

And just think Roscoe- They lied to you for years! Santa Claus, tooth fairy, easter bunny, etc. My boss is a little bit different than most, and he loves to say that about his parents. No offence was meant by that on my part, just making funnies. I understand where you are coming from. I don't know if society has really gotten that bad, or are we just hearing about all of it now. There are way to many people in authoritive positions screwing up. The Chief of police of Dallas county and the Chief of Tarrant County both were indicated by the grand jury. This is the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. I get extremely upset whenever I find out fellow LEO's are screwing up. The ones that get caught up in lifes problems like everybody else I can understand. Those that use their position, or expect to, to get out of trouble are what **** me off. The ones that really fire me up are the ones that use their position to gain access to places a normal person would not be able to, and then commit a crime. Good luck in your area, maybe those with dignity will stand out and lead others to a better understanding of what there job is really about.

IMO your daughter has just had a valuble lesson. I suspect my 18 year old son doesn't know how to use the brake pedal the way he drives. Put a little (unintentional) scare into her at 8 and hopefully reap the benefits at 18, I bet she knows what to do next time. Father sitting next to her (handbrake close by), 3mls an hour and only a hole in your house for your trouble. More parents should take the time as you did. IMO.
Aldo
