Re: Unable to Register my Boat

Crabapple Cove,

1981 60HP Johnson Sea Horse Outboard

I have a Load-Rite Roller Trailer that can take up to a 17' boat. Both the outboard and trailer run like a champ. I love both my trailer and outboard so all I really need is a hull.

I don't care about how fast I go. My 17' open bow that I have now (the hull I have to chop up) went just fine with the 60HP outboard.

How much would you be asking for the hull only?
What year is the hull and how long is it? Tri-Hull or Modified V?

Are you the registered owner of the boat? Could it be easily transfered over to my name?

Sorry about all of the questions. I just don't want the same problems I had before.

Shade i had the same problem you do..
1969 seacraft no tital no bill of sale.
When i finished the boat it was titaled built with available materals. The Marine Patrol came to my house filled out a form at no cost. I took that form, had it noterized and 36.00 later had a title. check it out

cut and past the add. on the bottom of the page

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

Sounds like you just need to say you made the boat. I registered my trailor as homemade and its very clear thats it wasnt. the sherif didnt seam to care and signed off on it. Also I bought the boat for a non registering owner. I just needed a bill of sale stating that he never registered it under his own name.

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

I found a nice 1980 MFG Tri-Hull that was last registered in PA in 1998 and the registered owner and I will be going to the notary/tag place to fill out the paper work. He has a registration card and we will get a notarized bill of sale so I am going to just junk my other boat. This will be a completely legal boat which is how I always like to run.

What you should have done is spent the 25.00 to register it out of state, and then transfer it back to your state.

This is legal, because fedral law says you don't register the boat in the state you live in, you register it in the state you use it in mostly.

You then just goto the PA registry and say "I'm gonna be using this here more now" and they'd transfer it.

I.e, any hardware store in NH can register it for you.. Hell, if you sent me the vin's i'd do it for a small fee.

-- Joe

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

I had this same problem with my trailer, although they were MUCH more helpful. The lady just whispered to me " I will title it as home-made and you mark your own serial on it etc." So that's how the trailer was titled since NO title could be recovered for it. Should work wit hthe boat

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

My overpriced two centavos:

Put a storage lien against it....this is what repair shops and storage facilities do all the time.

Here in Kaliforney boats are registered thru the Dept. of Motor Vehicles so pretty much the same rules apply as to cars. I'm in the car biz so I know a little bit about the process (at least in this state).

Ask around at your local friendly marina or boat repair joints about how they go about this sort of thing and try to get referrences from them as to who they hire to perform this service.

It's really nothing more than filling out a form and paying the lien sale company a few bucks and waiting perhaps a month for the process. They can legally obtain the previous owner's info and will attempt to mail them a notice of "intent to sell" due to non-payment of storage charges. Is 100% legal and works like a charm. Even if they can't get ahold of the previous owner the process was still attempted and most DMV's will accept that nonetheless. Case closed.
-ANT

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

I just bought a boat with similar circumstances. The guy i bought it from never put it in his name. We went to secretary of state and he signed a affidavit stating he was the owner. Then was put into my name had no problems at all.. Just showed a receipt to worker.

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

at the car dealership i work at, we get like a boat every month or two dumped in the parking lot.. heheh sometimes they even leave the trailer! just dump it in the old abandoned wal mart parking lot. tie the boat to a light pole and drive it off the trailer and haul ass. its funny to watch car salesman pulling a boat across the parking lot tied to a new car with a rope.

Now, if you were dragging a salesman around by a rope then you'd have dope on a rope! :D
-ANT

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

Good Grief! I thought I had it tough when I went to register my boat! This sounds like a beaurocratic NIGHTMARE!

If they know the "OWNER" of the hull and won't (can't) disclose that information to you to get the situation resolved then I would put the ball in THEIR court!

Dispose of the hull by dropping at the curb in front of their office with a note attached to please return it to its rightful owner. Make sure that you keep your trailer. Just give 'em the hull that they care so deeply about. ;)

Lien Sale!!!

Park the boat somewhere it will be towed or put in storage, make sure you know where and when a storage auction would be held and buty it out of the storage auction- should clear the title.

File an action to quiet title

Tom

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

I've gotta agree with snailman. Dispose of it at "their" office if they are not willing to help you. They may not legally be able to give you the previous owners name but I'm sure that "they" could legally contact the past owner on your behalf. Or ask your uncle's friend to contact the previous owner under the premise of official business (to see if the boat was stolen?)and pass your name and phone number to that person.

Re: Unable to Register my Boat

Had a little isue here in New Mexico. I bought the boat, mtr, and trailer for $995 in Minnesota.
Because the sales slip did not have the boat and trailer seperated by price they did not want to register it. Although they did inspect it. Next day I was getting pissed about this and had the dealer (not their fault) send me a new bill of sale that had two addition markings 1 of 200 trailer and 1 of 795 boat. But I could not wait, I used a blue pen and wrote on the yellow copy these figures. Took it down and was registered in no time other than the hour wait, assholes. Oh and a week later the overnight envelope shows up.
