Unable to separate gear housing from exhaust housing

I'm trying to get to the impeller. I have a 10020 and the correct manual. I removed the lower shift rod connecting screw and the four bolts (not five bolts like the manual states) between the two housings. I cannot get the two housing assemblies apart. I've applied penetrating oil to the seam but that didn't seem to do any good. Any advise?

The motor has sat for 7 years in a climet controlled basement. Ran great last time I used it.

The motor is a 1960 Evinrude Sportwin 10hp (10020). Any help would be great appreciated. The trout will be moving into the bay as soon as the ice leave and I gotta be ready.

shouldn't you be worried about that 5th bolt?

If it's like my 72 6HP (it has a unique lower crankshaft seal), you will have to slowly rotate the engine until a pin in the upper part of the driveshaft lines up with a slot and drops down. Thus releasing your lower unit.

Though I am curious about the 5th bolt too. Make doubly sure about that.

There's only 4 bolt holding the two housings together. If I could figure out how to add a photo I'd be able to show exactly where the 4 bolts are. Can anyone provide guidance on how to add pictures?

The picture shows where the two housing meet. Note that the lower unit is still attached to the power head.

The manual offers no guidance regarding alignment of a pin. It simply says "The gear housing assembly can then be slipped off after removal of the five screws connecting the upper gear housing to the exhause housing assembly." That is, once the lower shift rod connector screw has been removed, which I already did.

According to the parts manual, 4 bottom bolts, the bolt through the shift linkage and that's it. It isn;t the pin style as referred to in the previous post. It should drop, it could be that the driveshaft is stuck in the powerhead. Try tapping downward on the a/v plate with a mallet to free it up but not too hard or the aluminum will crack. hint hint ,resize that photo to 640x480 or just paste the link without the

I've rubber malleted it till I started swearing, mainly because I bent one of the fins a little. I've also put penetrating oil along the seam hours ago. I guess I'll just have to let it sit so the oil can do its job.

Also, I removed the img stuff and just left the link. Thanks for the heads up regarding size.

Penetrating oil has to go up where the driveshaft does into the crank, sounds like that's where it's stuck unless its getting hung up on the shift rod.
