OK I've identified the motor thanks to the great people here and some legwork ('61 Merc 60 6hp sn 1412432) and ordered my LU seals and impeller. I did find one carb kit, but it was $79...ouch! Since the motor ran really well, I think I'll just settle for a good cleaning and check my gaskets. Now for the problem at hand. The PO told me it used to leave quite an oil-slick of fuel on the water and I didn't think too much about it until I pulled the LU today. When I tipped the motor up to un-bolt the LU, quite a bit of fuel poured out of the leg. I only poured a small bit into the carb yesterday to test it, but this looked like at least half of it. Does anyone have any thoughts about what would allow half the fuel in the carb to be in the leg like that? Could it have been that when I "splashed" the carb to try and start it, I poured it right through to the exhaust or might there be something else to check going by what the PO had told me.
