Okay this is a new one on me. I keep loosing the dust cap on one wheel. I have gone through 4 of them so far. They actually blow away from the trailer? This just started happening. New bearings and seals at the beginning of summer. (new axles too). Hub is fine and the hub dust cap mounting surface is fine, no chips.

It has me completely stumped!

I don't know if you have considered this or not, you may have. Those dust covers come in a few different sizes, and they are all within hundreths of an inch of each other. You may have the wrong size. Although it is really close, when you go down the road, you gonna lose it due to vibration. When you put that cap on, it should be tight enough that you know that it isn't going to come off, unless you do some prying with a screwdriver. That is all I can come up with. Good Luck

I noticed that older trailers have 2" caps that are larger than newer 2" caps. I think I used to stretch them over a 2" ball, then when they were in place I added a bit of silicone caulking on the outside to give an additional hold.

Problem solved....The cotter pin (extra long) was turning during travel. It would rotate just enough for one tail of the pin to contact the cap. Once it made contact it would knock the cap off. I cut the extra long pin down to a reasonable size and removed the exta long tail. No more problems so far. Thanks for the input.

Off to the lake
