Unknown OMC engine - 186HP

Can anybody tell me what model this OMC engine is? I'm considering buying cheap and parting it out. Without driving an hour or two all the details I can get are it's mid 70's vintage OMC and it's 186HP.

Most likely the 302 Ford, may also be the 351 Ford,might even be a Chevy 283,305,327
hard to tell from the ENGINE PIC. Drive is OMC,and I`ll bet the boat is a old Stamas 22-25ft

Thanks for the info. The boat is a 24ft Bayliner Saratoga if that helps.

Ahh..so this is the dreaded stringer drive. No, I don't think it will be worth it. I'm not going to bother even checking it out now.

It looks like an 800 to me. Water intake on the side of the drive. soo - 78-86?

that's an OMC 800 series drive, (first introduced in 1978)
OMC never had any model rated at 186HP. they had a couple of different models at 185HP (a V6, and a V8 - both Chevrolet based) mated to that drive.
hard to say what might be there once you get to the boat

Yeah OMC 800 I think the 302 ford was 188hp in that era. is the engine a gm or ford? were there any buick engines of that time? I have a 1966 buick v6 that is the 155hp in front of a Stringer drive. Take some engine pics for us.

1972 was the last of the OMC / Buick based engines
