Hello,
My country soon (by 2004) will be full member of the European community. The regular fuel(98-octane) will no longer permitted for use because of the European law. We will only be able to use unleaded (95 or 98-octane). So far I was using for my 1989 90HP Mariner outboard regular(98-octane) fuel. Can I use unleaded fuel for my engine or is there anything else I should do to solve this problem?
Thanks

Re: Unleaded fuel

Hi, Stemar.

It depends on your engine, and the manufacturer's recommendation.

Most modern engines do well on unleaded regular, but some automotive conversions for inboard or I/O may require lead or a lead substitute.

What engine do you have? :)

stemar,

Your outboard doesn't need or care about lead or lead additritves.

The octane is the important factor. Just use the new fuel that has as close to the same octane rating as the old.

Re: Unleaded fuel

We had this problem in England 2 years ago. I was told then that all mariner engines built since 1966 could stand the lower rated unleaded fuel.

I think this thread belongs in Outboard Questions. I will move it there.
