Got a warm, dry day yesterday so I added another layer (three of four) to the transom in the 15-footer I'm redoing. I'm layering 3/8-inch ply with glass cloth between layers. Ought to be just about bulletproof when I'm done...

As a bonus, I horse-traded for three new windshield sections as my existing windshield was missing the center section and the side wings were missing their glass and otherwise falling apart. My local Starcraft dealer had them laying on a shelf where they'd been for over 30 years... Just goes to show that it doesn't hurt to ask...

That looks good but I hope you don't squeeze all the epoxy out! Wow you did good on the windshield find!

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. No, I certainly didn't squeeze the epoxy out. I suspect that's part of the reason I was told to put the glass cloth between layers to act as a bit of a sponge to hold it all in place. Now that the West System has kicked, it's solid as a rock.
There are definitely a few generations worth of clamps on there...:)
- Scott

Re: UPDATE: 1974 Starcraft American 15

UPDATE: I took pics but haven't posted them to my site yet. Anyway, this past weekend I managed to rally the troops enough to get some extra hands to help put the deck back on. Also, the rear floorboard is now in, the windshield is back on - with side wings replaced with newer style with new glass and a new center swing-out section to replace the missing one, and I drilled and installed new drain plug sleeves for the motor well and hull. It's starting to look like a boat again!

This weekend will be getting the forward floor section in, glassing in the floor edges to the sides, re-installing the rubrail and trim pieces, finishing up the wiring, and if time permits, I may get the flotation foam in the floor (2-part pour-in foam is on order, should be here Friday). I told my wife a month ago that the boat would go in by Fourth of July weekend and it looks like we may make it. Will post pics of progress soon...

- Scott

Fresh update - new pics coming soon...

Rub rail and all corner and transom trim is installed. Floor is completely in. Foam has been poured in. Boat has been registered.

Still to come - Install steering helm, throttle box, mount motor, finish wiring for bilge, lights & horn, add carpet, seats and vinyl trim to cockpit edges.

Hopefully we splash it this weekend!

- Scott

Re: UPDATE: 1974 Starcraft American 15

Splashdown!! July 2nd, the newly redone 15-footer sees water for the first time! Didn't have time for much of a ride - just a quick blast around the bay late last evening after spending the whole day finishing the interior, rigging it, etc., but it was SOOOOO worth it!
Here's a shot of it sitting peacefully at the dock this morning, dew and all...

More later...

Boy that is a sharp looking boat and the water just the type to go speeding off on. Would love to see that boat in action!!!

Re: UPDATE: 1974 Starcraft American 15

Thanks guys! Here's a quick shot at speed... I may have to dust off the old SLR camera to get some decent action shots as most of the ones I took this morning with my digital camera were quite blurry... This was the best of the lot...
