Re: Update

that looks great db... outstanding...

great idea on the hinged door in the stationary part of the ski locker. that is mostly unusable space since ya can't reach up that far. i'd think that hatch would be some food for thought as a great mod to do for any nineteen owner. .. great job man..

Re: Update

I have decided to do a basketweave (grid) plank style of anchor pulpit. After a lot of looking I found that they are typically around 2" thick. I'm only going 5/4 (approx.) on top of the deck. However, I am scribe fitting it into the bow section below the raised (non skid) area. This part is taking forever and last night it gave me a headache that still hasn't left.

The real fun part is that when I finish I have to make it's reverse twin for the other side. I'm also going to recess the bow roller section into the bottom of the wood so it won't be visible from the top.

Re: Update

pics please... :)

gotta have pics... i've not really thought about it much. short of knowing it's a drag to deploy a anchor from a nineteen. i think it'd be difficult to put a power windlass on a nineteen. i wanna see what yer up to. i'm not envisioning your design at this point.

Re: Update

Pics will be coming soon. I don't want to jump the gun while the whole assembly is still ugly. Overall, it's around 26" long and scribe fitted to the hull on the outsides. I sculpted out the inner portion to fill in the area where the nav light attaches and it will be relocated outward to the front of the bow pulpit. (wired internally through a wooden conduit)

It ended up having about a 4 degree taper from front to back and I decided to do an infill section of the maple through the center that looks like a tapered racing stripe. It is looking better than expected and I may end up using it as a diving board when I'm through.

My wife is beginning to get tired of all the hours I'm putting into it. I also picked up some more items for the dash last night in a 6 circuit led switch panel and a couple of contoura momentary rockers for dash-mounted anchor control and possibly to run the trim through a second one.

Re: Update

OK - Ziggy it came out of the blocks and I got a little sanding done so you can check out the new pics in my projects album. the link is already in the thread several times so I won't bother relinking it.

I think the whole thing will come out looking pretty nice. The dash will be next thing after I set up all of the mounting hardware for the winch and pulpit.

Re: Update

I will use a carabiner safety clip to attach it to the lifting eye on the foredeck. The winch will be located on the flat area just in front of the drop section of the windshield. I usually run it 1/2 down for ventilation and almost never crawl through there anyway.

The dash is turning out to be a real pain though. I pulled some templates last night and there just isn't much room for wht I'm adding. I think I will keep it relatively the same as original and relocate the ignition and accompanying switches to the side (below the shifter?) I've got a six circuit led panel with switches and breakers that I'll be placing there and then drilling it to mount the ignition. That way I can use the original dash as a template and not lose too much of the OEM look.

I'll dash mount my sonar in the positions left vacant by moving the switches. If I can make the trim work on a simple momentary rocker switch - I'll move that control as well.

Re: Update

I will likely give it a rest over the holiday weekend and head for Hot Springs and my favorite hot tub.

I've been working all week on a confined space trainer for potential gulf oil cleanup workers. Tons of fun.

Re: Update

Laid around in the pool yesterday and got nothing accomplished. We were able to make a test run on the trainer today and I may be able to get home at a normal time today.

Re: Update

This dash redesign is tough. I think I have accommodated everything except the trim and anchor controls now. So far I have made at least 4 paper templates that didn't work out and finally made one that is close enough to make a wood mock-up and check clearances for steering, etc.

Does anyone know whether the 3 button trim control can be switched for a two position momentary rocker switch?

Re: Update

yer anchor system looks great db. very nice. bet it'll work great too.

as for the switch. while i don't know for a fact, but i wouldn't see why not. especially if your trim limit don't work. like most don't including mine. it's trailer function only. i'd think you'd have to do the trim limit bypass back in the bilge though. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=383053 then it's either in or out. just be careful how much ya trim out while underway. ya might check out how much current is operated by the trim switches though. my guess would be they carry a fair amount.

Re: Update

A buddy with the Classic Glastron organization sent me a note saying he asked his stock broker for a buy recommendation and got "canned goods and ammunition" back.

Re: Update

I finally got a wooden mock-up made last night. You can see it along with the original in the photos pages I listed earlier.

Looking at it in the picture it seemed soooo simple. I still have several other switches to mount and have to convert the trim etc. The worst part is that now I have to decide what wood to use for the dash. I think the mahogany may be too dark and I'm not sure if I want to look at solid maple either. Another design hurdle. If anyone has ideas throw them in.

Keep in mind I want it too look as potentially original as possible.

Re: Update

I made some progress this weekend although the majority of my time was spent with kids and shuttling wife to pool and back.

Re: Update

A few more design revisions (and I got me a new RotoZip:D).

http://s763.photobucket.com/albums/xx271/dbkerley/Projects/

If you look at the original wooden mockup and imagine the mahogany insert with the remainder made of maple. I've also decided to pull the steering wheel and cut the chrome collar back to clear the dash instead of cutting around it. I think it will make the dash look less crowded and it will give me another place to hide mounts.

Still sanding and cutting out the maple version or there would be more pics.

Re: Update

Dropped in a pic of the real thing. (FINALLY) I still haven't done any of the finish work though. I'm still trying to work out a good way to fasten the gauge panel while leaving it easily removable for service. I considered hinging the top and then decided I didn't like the idea of working upside down when it needed bulbs and such.

Re: Update

I ended up working out a mount using hidden screws and threaded inserts. Anyway, it was sooooo hot this weekend I decided to break out the urethane instead of sitting in the sun and rewiring the dash area. Everything looks pretty good. I'll throw in some more pics when I remount the hardware.

Re: Update

got the floors in a few days ago and they look good - IMO.
I decides to cut the collar and use it as a mount point for the new dash. I don't know what it is made of (stainless). I cut it on a wheel and was expecting chromed pot metal. That stuf was tough and no sparks while cutting. I got the dash in and was about totake a break when the rain started. I popped the cover on and waited. 5 hours later and it is still raining. I'll probably start again tomorrow. New pics when I finish.
