The mystery has been solved. The wrong hinge pins were installed!!! The pins that where in there - that caused the bushings to wear out are pre Alpha 1 Mercruiser MR drive. Head diameter on those are 0.812" All standard Bravo pins are 0.867" head diameter. Looks like the trashed bushings can be pressed out and new ones installed.
