Mammalian products cannot be fed to anything.
There is a total ban (in the UK) on animal feed cotaining animal byproducts, there is also a ban on feeding any type of swill.

I wonder what the grass that your beef has been fed on had been sprayed with??

The UK and USA are quite different. Animals eat animal derived feed here. The feed ban was a gesture to calm the public after the mad cow scare here. The ban is a huge loophole with a convincing name, like I said political.

I listened to an audio book a few years ago on Mad Cow disease as I do field service and do a LOT of driving. It was VERY interesting. It's caused by a protein, which can't be destroyed. Even sterilizing instruments in an autoclave won't kill it. It makes your brain essentially look like a sponge, eating little holes here and there. It was a pretty scary thing to learn about, but it didn't stop me from eating burgers and steaks. The odds are very, very slim that you'll ever get it. With all the driving I do, I'm MUCH more likely to be killed in a car crash than by MCD...

All TSE (Transmissable spongiform encephalopathies) which BSE and CJD are, are caused by a protein called prion. In all forms of the disease this protein changes shape when infected, it's this change of shape that causes the holes in brain tissue.
