I once had a thought on the subject but it went away. :)

Save yourself a lot of trouble and help prevent world war and just do a search on the topic. Then you'll understand.

Another peaceful option is to just use the Amsoil........at 50:1 of course.....Ooops ,there I go having a thought again. :D

Use what you wish. I have used amsoil,Quicksilver,Penzoil,Redline race oil etc. Now I use Super tec from wal-mart any TC-W3 should do the job for you at 50:1 or in your injector. It is your machine.

See if you can get a free sample and try it. Then you decide.

Trying occasional samples won't really let you know anything UNLESS something bad happens (unlikely).

Great idea ! Your motor has been running good on regular marine oil for 20 years. Now let's try a different oil !

DHP

Lets see -- a "non boater" is giving advise on outboard oil. Hummmm....what's he basing his "authority" on? Snowmobiles? ATV? Scooters? Rocket ships? Or does he just "happen" to be an Amsoil dealer?

What problems are you having with the Quicksilver oil that you'd like to rectify?

I am in the process of using up all of my many brands of oil and switching to Hp injector.
It is rated both TCW3 and API-TC.
One synthetic oil for all equipment.

Re: Use AMSOIL Synthethic oil?

Yeah, yeah, the motor has been running fine (I've only had it 2 yrs) with the oil I've been using (which is same as previous boat owner used).

My AMSOIL friend is telling me I'd get a cleaner engine and better performance. But I'm not sure if there's some risk involved.

Years ago, I bought a Pontiac Grand Am with 150,000 miles on the engine. It ran OK until I used some type of "cleaner" which apparently cleaned the carbon off the cylindar walls and then it smoked and coughed terribly.

Jack

Please, make the popcorn + a cold beer. But don't discount synthetics because of one company's agressive sales tactics. I think too many folks want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Read this, and you will probably want to know more: Nascar stuff

God I love these oil debates. More gets accomplished about nothing than any other topic I see. Better grab 2 popcorns OBJ, it's another marathon oil fiasco thread....But I will say, this one has alot of good humor to go with it...

Thanks for the link ezeke....but I really don't want to know more about synthetics and oil and who makes the best and whats best to run in my shaker. Seen enough on the forums....makes my head hurt.

I'll take Ginger, Mary Anne talks too much.

Every one of these diatribes has pretty much the same people saying very little about anything substantive.

Bet they are still holding their tech stocks, too.

Cheers.

Re: Use AMSOIL Synthethic oil?

okay...i just have to chime in here.first of all i have a 15 horse evinrude which i use a good quality tc-3 oil at 50 to 1 and will continue to do so .now here is where i get confused.i just purchased a brand new stihl 290 ms chainsaw and the dealer sold me some opti-2 smokeless E-GD+ mix oil.the directions on the bottle call for 8 ounces to 5 gallons of gas.so i mixed it up and filled my tank.before i started the saw i thought about what i had done and did some calculating .i had mixed it at 100:1 as per the bottles directions.problem is the manual for my saw says 50:1.so i call the dealer up and he go,s into this longwinded spiel about how he has been selling saws with 100:1 mix opti-2 oil for years and that the oil company will replace any saw that is deemed damaged by this oil mixed at 100:1. so i don,t know ...i,m still gonna run my saw and outboard at 50:1...better safe than sorry.....anyone heard of this opti-2 mixing oil?

Dan, sounds like this guy is creating new repair business. I think you can go a little lean on the outboard once in a while if necessary, but not the chainsaw. Chief
