Use degreaser to clean up yoke and u-joints?

Yet another question... I appreciate everyone's help thus far.

My outdrive has become quite dirty during storage in my garage over the Canadian winter months. The yoke and the u-joints are now lightly covered with a mixture of regular dust and fine saw-dust. I was thinking of using an engine degreaser with a scrub brush to clean everything up and then just lubricating the surfaces and the u-joints with the Quicksilver Extreme Grease.

Is there a better way do to this or is this good to go?

Also... does anyone know if the Quicksilver Perfect Seal the same thing as the Evinrude gasket sealer? Are they interchangeable?

Thanks.

Don't know about the gasket sealer, but perfect seal is a non hardening sealant, Permitex Aviation sealant is a good substitute.

Ayuh,.... My favorite, easy to find, effective cleanin' solvent is Diesel fuel, aka: home heatin' oil, #2 oil,....

K-1, Kerosene, #1 oil, is also a viable cleanin' fluid, alittle lighter than #2 oil,....

Both are Much Safer than gasoline,.... Flammable, but not Volatile,...

If yer u-joints are greaseable, Grease 'em,... make sure the grease comes out all 4 caps, each joint,....

Perfect Seal is Permatex #3, non-dryin' liquid,...

Thanks for the suggestions.

I reason that I was leaning towards an engine degreaser is because I would be able just to simply rinse it away without too much concern for environmental regulations. I am hesitant to let diesel fuel drain into the storm sewers and I am worried about the brake cleaner being caustic to any seals or gaskets that are exposed in the u-joints and joke area.

The reason for my question regarding the gasket sealer is because I already have the Evinrude one.

Ayuh,..... Fortunately, or Unfortunately, My life has revolved 'round diesel fuel since I got outa high school,.....

I've been asked 'bout the stench my body carries a few times, I just tell 'em that's my cologne,...

Essence of De-Sal,...... ;)

As far as diesel fuel loss from cleanin', it's rarely any, clean it over a bucket, 'n blow off the residue with compressed air,....
Parts never rust, as water ain't used,...

Yes you can substitute Evenrude Johnson gasket sealant for Perfect Seal. Both are non hardening sealants.
