EDIT ::: Just found an old thread that talks about the ecomony & declining boat values.. BUT I am still looking for "a guide"...

I am looking at used boats *..Trying to find fair market values.. Nada values are VERY low (im my opinion). I dont see a used boat link on Kelly Blue Book.. Anyone know where I can find realistic retail values of used boats..

(* I am looking 18' Alum hull fishing boats w/walk thru windshield.. IE: Lund Tyee & G3.. w/outboard. Something about 5-8 years old- something within 10 hr drive from Omaha)

Re: Used BOAT Values

That depends what your definition of realistic is.
Nada may be low in your opinion, but to someone else its right on.

Well i think a realistic price is what you can sell or buy it for and be happy.

Post the specs on your boat and you may get a few people that can give you a reasonable price to sell it for.
But remember none of us can see it without pics.

Anytime I've wanted to sell something. I look online to see similar items and what they're sellling for. ;)

No matter how "collectable" something is, it's only worth what someone else will pay for it. :D

When I have looked at used boats, I too looked at comparables and what they have sold for, if iicould find it. Value is generally worth more to the seller than to a buyer, unless the buyer knows something that the seller does not. Perceived value to a buyer is most always important and may be willing to pay more just because he has to have it. In this market right now, its all about buyers.

I do the comparable sales shopping too. I look all over Google for my model boat with equivalent features and tend to start my selling price near the top of the spectrum, while talking up the new features, maintenance, receipts, etc. I do check NADA as well though, because I know a lot of buyers will use NADA.

If I happen to be below NADA I include their listed values in my ad. The part I do not get about NADA is they never seem to care about how many hrs the boat has. Mileage is well defined as the way to judge a used car's value, but NADA doesn't even give you an option for hrs. I know hrs are nowhere near as reliable for boats as miles are for cars, but low hrs should be worth something IMO.

Re: Used BOAT Values

If a prospective new boat-owner is contemplating the purchase of a used boat, I recommend several visits to the local boat ramp to observe while you're out there looking. Of course, you will see all sorts of goings on there. Summarize your observations by asking your self this question..."Would I want to buy that boat for my family?" Remember, you don;t know much at all about boats yet, but you're learning. Chances are, your eyebrows will raise on more than one occasion. It's sad, but comical sometimes. Pack a lunch..it;s a scream!
