If you tear a motor like this and replace a piston do you have to re- time the motor after u put it back together

The timing is fixed at the factory------It does not change over the life of the motor.-----Unless of course if somebody messed with it.----Sheared flywheel key changes the timing.-----So if you take motor apart / reassemble the timing does not change.------What is the model # of your motor ?-----Running issues?----Why the question ?

Racerone thank you for your answer model # j140tlcnb I bought it as a parts motor I started checking it out just nosey and I found a ring broke took it apart honed the cylinder scratch out I don’t want to put dollars in it but thought i may put a piston in it just to see if I can get it running thanks again for your help

What does the bad cylinder measure at now ?-----Ad are you putting a new piston in ?

It’s 17 thousands over my plan is to put 20 thousands over piston and rings in it thanks

You cannot make a cylinder .020 with a hone unless you have a multi mega dollar Sunnen machine. You are wasting your time as hole won't be straight and to spec. It has to be bored. Seen several DIY motors that this was tried on and all failed as cylinder honed ended up tapered.

Thanks Fastbullet for your expertise I’m sure you are right I am about 6hrs drive away from a block shop that I would trust I may plan a fishing trip to that area and have them bore it thank you for helping me decide to do that good time to go to central tenn

If they take on the job they may need to go bigger than 0.020" O/S

I guess to fix what I have messed up but live and learn I bought this motor for parts I have a J140tlcte a local guy rebuild it sent block to tenn put 4 new wiseco pistons in it bout 10years now still doing good so thanks guys I really appreciate what you do on here
