Hello. I am new to v drives, but am a mechanic. I am trying to remove my prop shafts on my 1999 310 Sea Ray Sundancer. It has the Velvet 5000 transmissions.

I have the cotter pin and large nut off the end of the shaft (at the transmission). I removed the 4 bolts securing the coupler to the trans output flange. Now the question, how to get it apart? Chisel and hammer? Heat with torch?

I need some advice from someone that has performed this as I don?t want to damage anything. I want to continue Saturday so if you can help answer the question, please help!

Thanks in advance

If these are Mercuiser Inboards then this is probably the best place for this thread. I know it is kind of a gray area, but let's leave it here. I am going to close the other duplicate thread to avoid any confusion. I am sure you'll get quality help here.

Did you loosen the nut that the shaft goes through on the packing box so the shaft can slide out through it? Soak the coupler and flange with some penetrating oil also. You can tap a chisel lightly between there and see if they pop apart.
