Latest video of the engine running.
Spent the day digging out the old rusted core plugs and replacing with new.
Unfortunately the replacement water isn't pumping so that's going to have to come off so i can examine the impeller.
Nothings meant to be too easy!

dude
gotta admire a man with a project.
hopefully one day ill break bad and buy another box so I can look at more of the pics. right now they lock my box up.
lord knows I have done my share of projects knowing its a money loser but I just gotta see it run :).
kinda like having kids as a retirement plan.
ya know it aint gonna work but ya gotta do it anyways.
that essex motor project is gonna be cool no matter how it ends.
myself, I am gonna involve myself into my daughters 83 C-10 chevy.
was gonna do an old 350 but recently got my grubbys on a complete running pair of 330 HP volvo MPI 7.4L motors
one of which may find itself back in a GM product :).
good luck and keep posting about that project

Try downloading firefox browser as it has all the java plugins you will need to view the pictures on my website. it can be downloaded from:
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-3.0.7&os=win&lang=en-GB

What size is the chevy engine? V8? what state is it in?
cheers

Very cool pictures & video by the way.... There's also a neat video of someone running a little inboard with the same engine there....

Well, there is another way to fix your current "box" but it requires a little thinking out of the box.....

http://www.opensuse.org/en/ I put this on all my computers....
It also comes with Firefox (in addition to hundreds of other available [free]software packages)

Best thing is it doesn't cost a dime.....

impeller in omc stern drive?

impeller in omc stern drive?

does anyone know if the omc stern drives have an impeller that sucks water in at the bottom and pushes it up through to the top of the drive?

If it does not can anyone recommend a good 12 volt water pump to pull it through from the inner side of the transom etc. as the water pump on my inboard is more of a recirculation pump than an efficient suction pump etc.

thanks

Good job badman! Did you ever pull and clean up the tilt motor yet?

Also do remember my advice and never run that leg straight down to stop. Always bump it down til it reaches the bottom, that way you won't ever spit the worm drive shaft out into the briney deep.

hi again.
just wanted to ask you if the omc outdrive has an impeller that draws water in from the drink and oushes it up through the drive?

i am hoping so because i need the water pressure to assist in water flow around the engine cooling system etc.

looking forward to pulling it all apart!

How about a belt driven raw water pump hooked up to a thru hull fitting?
