I just bought a pontoon boost that has the v4 evinrude on it I paid 800 for the boat and the trailer and engine and I was wanting to know if I got a good deal and if the motor is any good and reliable, don't get me wrong I'm going to have to work to the boat but I have no idea about the engine

Re: V4

Would help to know what hear/hp the engine is. Can you post the model number and hp?
That will tell the year. Model is on the serial tag on somewhere on the transom bracket. Could be a sticker or a riveted aluminum tag, depening on year. If the engine runs and has good compression, no water in the lower unit gearcase, that makes it useable and worth more.

Re: V4

thats a cheap price..I am going to guess it is real old..that does not mean that the motor may not be worth fixing...so post model number..then break out the tools and do a compression check, spark test, change gear oil, water pump, correct spark plugs, and see if it will run.

Re: V4

$800 would be a good price for just the motor if it runs good. you should do all above mentioned things. add in a good carb cleaning/rebuild. If you post the model number we can tell you what year/HP the motor is.

Re: V4

Still need additional details. OMC did not make a 125 in 1988. Their last 125 was in 1972.

Re: V4

Talked to a boat doc today and the tag on the side said it's a e 100 and the doc said that it means that it's a 100 hp engine but I can't remember what the rest of the stuff on it was but 100 is still good for me

Re: V4

model identification 2.jpgThey made 100 hp crossflows starting in 1971 on and off through 1997. There may be information on a casting plug on the top of the engine. It's about the size of a quarter and is probably painted over. If you can post the information on that plug, we can help with what year it is...

Re: V4

Need the actual model # to help you. Not what the "Doc" said.
