Re: Vacuum bagging questions

Another question for you fella's :)

I might screw up my terminology on this one but here goes.

I have this vacuum connector right now on my hose
http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Lock-On-Vacuum-Connector.html

For the fitting that goes in to the bag. The one that you plug the hose in to. Like this one

I see there are a few different options. Is it possible to make your own or am I better off just buying one? Its not the $40.00 that is the problem. I just dont know which one to go with. I dont really want to change the quick connect on my hose because its pretty nice. But if I have to then so be it.

What do you guys use for the connections to the bag? Is there different connections depending on project at hand?

Bob, Thanks again for the recommendation! I have not got to try it from start to finish yet, but if it goes as good as the rest of it, I know I will be happy.

Oh yeah, I am headed down to the city tomorrow. Its about a 2 hour drive each way. So if there is anything you guys can think of that I should pick up down there. Was thinking maybe that cloth at Joans (that was for breather cloth wasnt it?)

Thanks fellas!

Re: Vacuum bagging questions

Hello again Brandon..

The link you gave ..
http://www.fibreglast.com/product/Brass_Plastic_Two_Way_Shutoff_Valves_00910_A/Vacuum_Fittings

Shows the "frog" fitting. Its the round part at the bottom ( its 2 peices one for inside and one for the outside of the bag ). That is what you want for your bag fitting. Though I dont understand why they have a 1/4 " bushing going into a male air fitting.. when you can just buy that male quick connect fittin with 1/4 female threads therebye elliminating that FF coupler fitting ?? ( I guess it looks bigger for the price there asking lol

The first link you gave isnt real Ideal for what you might possibley do with wet lams. They will get clogged fast.

Here is what I would do with your system to make it more .. multi-purpose ..

1. make your own manifold with as many fittings as you like for your bagging hoses .. IE 1/4" pipe Brass T's and (1) 1/4" brass L's for your end of your manifold.

2. put 1/4" "cheater valves on each "in vacuum hose connection" on your manifold.

3. Attach Female Quick connects to those "cheaters" ( one is going to your pump the rest is going to your bag hoses ).

4. Make Male Male Quick connect brass fittings for your "manifold" to your "manifold to hose" .

5 HOSE .. ONE side you put a Female Quick connect ( to match your male male fittings for your manifold ) The OTHER side is connected to 1/4" female barb fitting ( 1/4" female pipe Directly connects to your 1/4" male frog fitting ). the barb end is dictated by your Hose size only..

Basically, your One side of your FROG goes inside the bag..the other side is outside your bag connected to a hose ( no quick connect .. Hard fitted to your hose with that barb/hose 1/4" fitting ) .. the other end of that vac hose has Female Quick connect to male quick .. to male quick to female quick to cheater to manifold to pump ( Step by step working backward from your bag end ).

Im sorry its kinda hard to explain .. but its rather simple..

With this setup you can adjust Every line in the vac system to what pressure it holds. You can even quickly release..or keep vac on any area of the project you wish.

You dont really want the "quick connectors" getting resin in them at the bag you will..replacements will cost you.. hose is cheap so you can allways let them clog after a project and replace..

Ill try draw something to post for a better work up..

If your going to bag right over wet lams .. thats where your going to need the whole gambit of bagging..

Lams then peelply..bleeder..breather..xtra breather At frog location(s)..

YD.

PS. Soak your Frog fittings in acetone and get a nice stiff Dental pic for cleaning your frogs out :)
