Re: vacuum line

so start it warm it up. turn it off, connect pos/neg leads to battery and clip onto no.1 spark plug. fire it back up. every time the no.1 plug fires, the light comes on. you look through the run and watch to see the number of degrees is passing tdc?

Say I see its at 10 degrees, the motor cover says 8 degrees btdc so I loosen the nut under the dist. (still running?) and turn the whole thing slightly clock wise

I usually put the light on the battery and the plug lead before I start it for warm up... I know I'm checking timing, so set the gear up 'off the bat'.... You can do it either way, makes no difference...

I prefer to turn it off when loosening the bolt. ;) Looks really bad when you get your hand caught in 'rotating machinery'...

As for the direction to turn the dissy? I have never bothered to take notice. I just start turning it a little one way, and if the marks move the wrong way, turn the dissy the other way.... Once you have the timing right, shut it off, tighten the bolt, then restart and check the dissy hasn't moved any while you were tightening it down....

But in essence, you got it....

EDIT: Just looked at the manual... You're right, CW will retard the timing....BTW, you got a manual?
