Venture Trailer Brake Fluid Leak

I have a 2006 Venture trailer that I bought brand new with my 22 foot center console boat. I have had problems with it since about 8 months into owning it with the brake fluid leaking out of it at the tongue. I can only go a few short trips before it leaks out and it starts slamming back and forth when I make stops. Does anybody know what could be the problem? It seems to be leaking right in the main unit where you fill the fluid from underneath.

Brake master cylinder located in the coupler. Also a thorough inspection of the entire brake system is in order as once moisture is introduced, bad things happen rapidly. Get thee to a trailer repair shop or break out the wrenches.

does that involve replacing it or could it be repaired? what would cause that to blow out in the first year of using it? I probably only had up to 200 miles on the trailer at that time. The dealer I bought it from said I was driving too fast and applying the brakes but I know that isn't true unless 45 mph to the ramp is excessive.

First your dealer is FOS!! That coupler can handle a panic stop at any speed that you can handle.

As to what is leaking or why it is leaking, can't tell you cause I can't see it. It is a simple hydraulic system..

hitch pushes piston, piston displaces fluid, fluid applies brakes.
it is probably disk brakes, so one more hole for the reverse solinoid.

You need to identify exactly what is leaking and get it repaired, THEN, flush the entire system with new fluid.

Always replace hydraulic components, it's a total waste of time trying to reseal an old unit once rust sets in. The cylinder typically is 60-90 bucks plus your labor and bleeding. Having a shop do it I'd guess about 250-300. And I'd find a reputable RV shop or trailer shop, your dealer sounds like a joker!

We don't know if rust is an issue yet or not. Could be as simple as a fitting that was not properly torqued.

Re: Venture Trailer Brake Fluid Leak

Given the nature of brake fluid to absorb water, and it's been leaking for years apparently, I'm not betting the OP is going to be very lucky on this one. However I will hope for the best, but, pull that cap and give it a good look in there.
