VERY basic question about fishfinders/depthfinders

I have a fishfinder that side-scrolls from right to left (I assume that's how they all work). My question is this: does that mean that what I'm seeing on the right side of the screen is the most recent data and what's on the left is old data?

The reason I ask is because I tend to see fish or structure and it always seems to be moving from right to left, NEVER left-to-right.

Does this mean maybe my transducer isn't properly mounted?

If anyone has a website or something that can explain how this works, please let me know.

BTW - I read the 92-page manual that came with the finder; it was not much help.

Thanks!

Correct! Right side is most recent sounding. Left side=been there. Between the two is a good topographic look. If you catch a visible fish post the ff brand.

I'll tell you I have a Fishmark 320; seems to be very accurate as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the heads up on how these work.
