compared to another engine of same model, it has less tell tale flow and much warmer water temps out of the tell tale.

old impeller looked fine (no missing chunks). It seems that it has been doing this since new. fresh water only. 5 hours of use. no groundings or clogged water inlets.

I ran a wire up the (brass?) tube from the water pump that goes up to the power head, and didn't detect any clogs there. compressed air did move through the system, but it seemed restricted. (I don't know if the thermostat would do that?)

thermostat or ? could be causing the problem? I haven't pulled the thermostat yet.

Re: very WARM and reduced telltale flow

Hi,
If thermostat is stuck in closed or near closed position the outboard would run hot.
Test the thermostat hanging in a wire in a pot of hot water on the stove. A thermostat usually open at about 50 deg Celsius / 122 Farenheit and fully open at about 60 deg Celsius / 140 Farenheit. At least this is true for my Yamaha F115 thermostat.

BUT: be careful with any screws holding thermostat cover since on old outboards they tend to get stuck and you can break them in attempt to loosen them.
Also, make sure the thermostat is mounted back later in same orientation (direction) it was before.
