Re: Veterans Day: Tues 11-11-03

It's a cryin shame. My 6 year old was asking about veterans day yesterday. He laughed at me because I have to work and he gets the day off of school. So I started thinking...I get Good Friday and Columbus day (as well as the worthwhile holidays) off from work, but not Veteran's day. I do not get Martin Luther King day off, but I know a lot of people that do. How can this be? It should be a National holiday with the three day weekend thing. It riles me up!! You're welcome, Neumanns.

Your welcome, and thanx for the thought. I always take Veterans day off, 11 years in the Army gives me that right. Boss hasn't disputed it yet... :D

I'm married to a Vietnam Vet. He is ashamed. I told him tonight," I am so proud of you," He is still so angry! He loves guns. I love guns too. Tonight he shot our favorite .50 caliber muzzuleloader. We love that gun! BOOM! Hooyyaahhh!
Yep! Celebration!! He should celebrate! My Hubby!
He doesn't feel anything; any proud. He feels oh my gosh! You who know, you know! He feels he is worthless!! My husband feels worthless.
I love him with all my heart! How can I help my husband?
Bassy

I agree that if it is a holiday when government agencies, banks, and schools close, everything should close.

I remember back during holidays it was hard to find anything open. You were just SOL if you run out of gas. Nothing was open. Families got together and stayed closer together.

Now our kids are confused on the holidays. Why does daddy work on a holiday that is surpose to recognize his efforts?

Those of us who have served our time, done their deed, Thank You and it was a pleasure serving our great country......SS

Bassy..All combat vets have to face their ghosts in their own way..Some go on with life others linger and can't go forward..The faces are just as vivid today as if it was yesterday..
My healing process came after 9/11 and saw that the American people really do care.
Just be there for him and let him work it out within himself..
This forum has been a great benefit to me since I joined because all the support that is shown here for the forgotten few. For this I thank you folks on Iboats...

Bassy,
Many guys who saw action won't talk about it. My Godfauther was in nam. His chopper got shot down and he pulled the pilot out because he had broken his back, they got taken down in a hill and after hitting the ground they where still getting shot at, somehow he made it out. He got a purple heart for it... . . . . and he never told me any of this, his wife did. He'll never talk about it, just to painfull, I guess. He actually gets pissed off when he see's people who have been in the army bragging about it.

My grandfauther is the same way, he was in Koriea, I'm not sure what he did over there. He never told me anything more then he was there.

Have a good day all you Veterans!!
:)

Everyday I thank all of you guys and girls that ensure that freedom on a daily basis, with the bottom of my heart.

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!!!

Bassy, I wish I could say something smart here, but I don't know what to say. The Vietnam effected alot of people. I was 8 years old when my father drove away. I thought the last words he'd ever say to me was "Your the man of the house son, take care of your mum and your sisters" Little hard to swallow at 8. He came back though. I was differant kid when he returned. I think your husband is one of the fortunate ones because he has a understanding and supportive wife. Keep up the good work. Thanks to all the Vets and the people and families who have supported them

Re: Veterans Day: Tues 11-11-03

Bassy, my dad bears the same scars as your husband. The only time he ever talks about his time in the service is when he has had a few cold ones or when he is with other people that were "there". One of the saddest days of my life was when my hometown gave me a "welcome home" parade when I came back from the gulf. I saw my dad in the crowd, the toughest man I have ever met, with tears running down his face. We never talked about it, so I'm not sure really how he felt. I'm sure some of it was he was happy I was home, but I'm almost positive he was reliving his homecoming when he was crapped on by country he gave so much for. My dad, and all the other men that served in the Nam (and I know there are a few of them here) not only deserve a "Thank You" and a "Happy Veterans Day", but also a heartfelt "I'm sorry".
