I need to get a VHF radio for my 16ft boat.
I was thinking about a mounted base radio as opposed to hand held one.

Could someone suggest what to buy and where to buy?

Thanks

Re: VHF Radio help

In a recent Power Boat Reports, Icom were rated as the best performing VHF line, Uniden, particularily the President line the worst. Check at West Marine. They currently list the Icom at a better price that I paid for one this winter on a "Boat Show Special".

Excellent radio for the money! The next radio up the line is a DSC capable model but it would be about twice the price.

VHF Radio Help

Read this, I asked the same question last year, bought a Shakespeare combo (rado and 8' antennae) off Iboats for $149.00, and couldn't have been happier

Re: VHF Radio help

I have the ICOM IC-M45 and it is great. Be sure to get at least an 8' antenna and thru-the-deck connector. Even at low power the radio goes for miles.
