We are about to purchase a new toon and are wondering if we should get the vinyl floor or just stick with the carpet.

Anyone have any experience with this?

What's a toon? I've put down 2 vinyl floors and they wash easily, fish hooks and crud doesn't get into the carpet, and vinyl doesn't hold moisture, but vinyl will never look as good as carpet. It mostly depends on how you will use the boat.....pleasure or fishing.

toon is short for pontoon, lol!

Wouldn't the vinyl be slippery when wet??

I have been watching the threads on the vinyl flooring on toons and so far ever one loves it. It is slip restent.

I had a vinyl type floor on my last boat, and I thought it was much better then carpet. It was installed by the previous owner, but it looked the same as Marideck.

I would never want a boat with carpet again... (my new boat has snap in carpet, which I'll take out and probably do the whole cockpit with seadek).

I dunno about that...

Most people think my vinyl is carpet until they get right up on it and touch it.

I love my vinyl and also will never have carpet in a boat again.

I love my vinyl deck. It is very non-slip.

Jig, that's agood looking interior and I've never been a fan of vinyl. I like the carpet in mine. Looks good, soft under foot, no heat from the sun. I clean once a year with Resolve and a pressure washer to get out the dirt, but I don't fish from mine, so blood and guts isn't an issue. The only fish on my boat is on the grill.

Re: Vinyl or carpet.

How hot does vinyl get on say a 90 degree day.

It WILL get hot, but not as hot as a wood or fiberglass deck. Not unbearable if you have bare feet.

If I'm fishing my shoes are on. If we're swimming i always throw a towel on the floor to soak up the water. In either case, not a problem.

The best part is the easy cleanup and high skid resistance. My last 3 boats were grey vinyl just like the several pics above. Never will have a carpet again!

You could purchase the toon with vinyl, then buy some after market carpeting of the same color, put some snaps in the corners and a few other places so if you want to walk around bare footy on something nice and soft just snap in your carpet.

I like the vinyl. Where do you get it? Is it feasible to just rip out my current carpet and put in vinyl?

Cabelas is the best place. They sell the adhesive as well. Its real easy to put in as long as the substrate is flat, smooth and clean.

Carpet is the standard with vinyl in the rear area. All vinyl is an upgrade, teak vinyl is a big upgrade, and snap in carpet is also an upgrade that requires the vinyl floor upgrade.
