Voltage regulator add-on?

My 1993 Merc 60hp 3 cyl. ser.0D074327 is charging the battery at around 16v when at WOT and i think that this can be the reason why the electrolyte heat up and evaporate on the long run (drop below the top of the plates after 3 months of use). From what i understand, they simply put a rectifier to convert the current from AC to DC but nothing to regulate the amount of voltage being applied to the battery...

So my question is: is there's a kind of voltage regulator/rectifier combo that i can substitute to the actual rectifier? Or 16v is just fine for these engines?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Voltage regulator add-on?

Thanks rickster. I assume that this will replace the actual rectifier, right? It has the same wiring (2 yellow to stator, grey to tach and red to starter solenoid). Did you know what's the voltage output? 14.4 V?

Wiring is the same. 14.4v is right. You may have to do some fitting ti install it.
