Voltage regulator rectifier

Ok wanted some input on this topic on a 98 evenrude 115 voltage regulator rectifier, i had to replace a voltage reg due to not charging at all i also replaced the stator as they say to replace both at same time. Well all was good when started up at idle it was charging at 14. 1 volts went to two tournments than it started charging at 13.1 volts i am using a duell purpose deep cycle battery load tested good ,so i started looking for info when battery is full does it continue to charge at 14 volt or does the voltage go down with amps also or does it stay at 14 volts cant find that information it says in the omc shop manuel that it is fully regulated if any body has this info it would be greatley appreciated ,than you advance alley mechanic

Assuming the resistance stays the same, reducing the voltage results in a reduction of current. Some guy named Georg Simon Ohm figured that out in 1827. His Ohm's law says E=IR. or I=E/R

E is electromotive force (stated as Volts)
I is current (stated as Amps)
R is resistance (stated as Ohms)

AFAIK the regulator will maintain a constant voltage but the current will reduce as the battery charges. . Only "smart" battery chargers and advanced alternator regulators l reduce the voltage to a " float" level once the battery is charged.

If you see only 13.1 volts your rectifier / regulator has probably failed or you have dead battery.

Be aware that connecting the battery with the polarity reversed will fry your rectifier more quickly than you can say, "oh ****! ".
Disconnecting the battery while the engine is running might also damage it. This could be the result of a bad connection.

Thank you for the quick come back,battery is good i know not to hook up or even touch wrong battery terminals all battery leads hooked up to batterey like the shop manuel says , my last regulator rectifier lasted 12 years this one went out in only in two tournments going to change out water pump this one has been in for three years maybe it was not getting enough cooling even though i have good water pressure at faster speeds .

Sorry i didnt get back sooner shoulder issues, well i put in anouther battery that i know is discharged to where it will still start the engine which had onley 12.1 volts and a capacity of 70 percent started it up went to 13.5 volts at 1200 rpm went to the lake at 4000 rpm it went to 13.6 volts came home checked battery it showed 13 volts after about 30 min it set back to 12.7 volts so it looks like its charging

Your volts readings all seem a bit low Are they readings with a reasonably good multi-meter or just on a panel voltmeter.
A battery at 12.1 volts is only 50% charged or a little less

When charging Id expect the volts to rise steadily until they reach 14 volts or so if the rectifier/regulator is good, but that could take a couple of hours.

If you charge your battery at home with a good automatic charger until it is fully charged then let it stand with no load and no further charging for 24 hours it should read around 12.7 volts

Keep in mind those regulators were a 3/9amp I believe were the numbers. At lower speeds its 3amp, higher speeds 9-10amp. Not alot of charging power. More "maintain" than charge.

I've never had an issue as long as i'm not seeing 12.7 which is my fully charged battery. lower speeds will yeild 13.x...up higher maybe 13.9-14.3 possibly.

I also believe the factory manuals have a section about batteries. They dont recommend Maint-Free or deep cycle. A starting battery should be your main battery, with a switch for accessorys as needed.

When i had it at home i used my simpson meter my owners manuel says you can use a deep cycle battery as long as the cold amps are i belive 340 amps or higher
