Hi, I repower this winter with another 302 ford motor which is in front of a duoprop drive, motor was from a reputable builder in ME...I started it today and there is spark at the cap and plugs on all cyl's. But removing wires from # 3,5,7 from cap has no effect on motor which is rough at idle...this has a zero lash valve train set up. If you back off the rockers on the 3 mentioned above the motor straightens out ( which is letting valves close) but after you retighten the rockers it goes back to rough idle. I have to talk to the owner of the rebuild shop in am but the person who I spoke with this afternoon said it might have to be shimmed??? Has anyone ever heard or done this??? Thanx for any input

Did the engine swap involve a 5.0 HO? My 95 Ford Volvo is an HO, and I know the firing order is completely different from a standard 5.0. The HO uses the 351 firing order.

I was just gonna say.... I've run into that a few times. Stuck a '95 'Stang HO 5.0 motor in my 85 Lincoln and it took me a bit to remember that. Getting old sucks. Cool Lincoln though.

THANK YOU both very much...would have never thought the firing order could be wrong as good as it ran high end, and with that much difference in #'s...Thanx

I was going by the info on the original decal on motor which was a ho, it says to set the timing at 10%, what would you use for timing on the stock 302 that's in there now

What would I use? I'd advance it incrementally until it started pinging and back it off a bit and leave it. However since some people are sticklers for those silly factory specs well I suppose 8-10 degrees is good.

I should add the 5.0L of that generation has bolts on the rockers in lieu of studs and if I remember correctly they should be tightened too 25lb-ft?!

My 1996 HO is set at 10* BTDC. Was the cam changed? if so, you'll need to know what lift/duration etc...
