Sorry of this is already addressed elsewhere, but I didn't find it. Blew off the main water hose on saturday. Loose clamp (missed from winterizing). The one from the circ pump to the thermo housing (#9 on the parts diagram). All was fine when at I checked it at the dock, guess it popped when I throttled up. Maybe 5 minutes total before I checked and found. Only noticed it when the temp gauge was still at zero after a few minutes on the water. No alarms. The raw water was working fine and spraying everywhere.

Seems to be ok after I reconnected, temps in the 160-175 range. Any idea if there's anything lurking that I need to be concerned about ? Like once it's cooled down, or just got lucky. Kind of troubling that there's no detection of this other than a no-show on the temp gauge.

Thanks Moosehead, but the RW impeller isn't the issue - it was pumping full bore into the bilge, believe me. The problem is I had a bad hose clamp that I didn't catch on dewinterizing. The main coolant circulating hose - the 2" hose going to the engine circ pump popped off. I thought the ECM had another temp sensor (there's some sensor attached to a tee on the lower block drain on the port side) that set off an alarm.

Ayuh,.... Donno where all the sensors, 'n senders are on yer Volvo, but generally they're in/ at/ near the t-stat housin',....

Reason ya got no alarm or heat on the gauge is simple,....
They sense Water temps, not air temps,...
There was no water in the motor by the sounds of yer story,.....

How "Hot" did it seem,..??

Thanks Bondo. I get that the ECT sensor wasn't getting water, or only cold raw water. Just didn't know if that same sensor in the tstat housing feeds the ECM or if there was another. The sensors on the risers were getting plenty of cold raw water so they did't trip. I now know that the sensor on the lower block water drain is a knock sensor, not a water sensor, so that didn't do it.

As to how "hot" is got, I didn';t get scalded touching the block, and when I hooked the hose back up the gauge was registering about 175. I was just leaving the dock. This time of the year it takes a while before the temp gauge moves off zero, so I didn't get concerned while I idling out the channel. Just once I throttled up and it was still null I checked and got a face full of spray.
