What's the difference in these two engines? Is one "better" than the other? Looking at a 24' bowrider that has the 5.7L GI with duoprop.

Until 2009, the 5.7GI was rated at 280hp, the GXi was rated at 320hp. For 2009 the Gi became rated at 300hp (which many people think it was producing all along).

The GXi developes its additional horsepower at the very top of the rpm range.

The Gi is a great engine, and I personally wouldn't pay much more than $100 extra for a GXi, but that's just me.

Depending on the year, the Gi has 280 or 300 PHP and the GXI has 320 PHP.
Both are fuel injected. As far as out of the hole, both are about the same performance. Top speed of the GXI will be about 1 to 2 MPH higher.

Concur with both of the above,

I have driven/run both (DP equipped) - in the same boat/model prior to purchase. I ended up with the GXi/320HP. The difference is noticeable but definitely not worth the premium Volvo wants new... Thus if a used boat and you have both available, I would go for the GXi. As stated, the initial hole shot is little different yet acceleration from there is.

Cheers
