Well I got my carb rebuilt, well basically took it apart, cleaned it, replaced the accelerator pump and found some blockage on teh arm to the pump....great, so I put it back together and the new "aluminum" banjo washers for the fuel line connector just dont' seem to do the job.

Suddenly my starter, which had only turned the engine over for maybe 30 seconds while diagnosing if I had a fuel leak, starts glowing and basically stops.....(yeah, we had a fire, luckily it was fuel and small and I was able to blow it out).....doh.

I go out a couple days later it cranks over, twice with no issue (ie 3 seconds) but I look back and there's a spot just above the center of the starter GLOWING...........YIKES! Bet I won't do that again!! I figured because it was so cold out and maybe I had dirty contacts the first time that that was the cause.

I bought the boat, the owner had replaced the starter two years ago and rarely, if EVER used it. (The boat sat for 2 years)

Could some dirty connection cause this or am I looking at a new starter?

I'm going to pull it out and get it tested of course, but anyone heard of this?
